I'm a band geek, no doubt about it

We usually keep NPR on in Katie's room. Classical music builds her intelligence and all that jazz. Speaking of, the jazz on the weekends is cool, too. The talk radio announcers all have great voices, and the "talk" is either really interesting, or really soothing. And of course, the news from Lake Wobegone.

What I like best, though, is sitting with my baby on my lap, listening to the music and thinking, "Hey! I know this song!" I guess I never really paid much attention to how many really great pieces we played in band. Also makes me feel tres sophistiqué.

Update on Dad

I just realized I hadn't written anything about Dad in a while. He is doing really well. I think staying in Othello was a good choice for him. He seems really comfortable there, and because it's not crowded, he's managed to have a room to himself almost the whole time. The staff seems really attentive and willing to work to make sure he's comfortable.

He has an appointment on Friday for some x-rays, and then next Tuesday he meets with the orthopedic team to make a plan for the future based on how well his legs have healed so far. I'm ready for him to come home. I miss him!

Who's your hero?

First of all, let me say that I'm the worst mommy in the world for letting my baby girl watch movies. Secondly, know this: When she's all worked up, distracting her with a shiny thing or a moving picture works wonders!

However, I'm a bit worried about my lovely, smart, wonderful daughter. You see, Jared bought me Enchanted for Mother's Day. And Katie likes watching the princess movie with her mommy. She enjoys watching Giselle sing and dance with the cockroaches. She enjoys watching Pip the chipmunk tell Prince Edward that the apple is good (Rachel!). And yeah, the girl recognizes McDreamy when she sees him. But. My daughter's eyes just light up and she smiles like crazy when this character takes center stage:





That's right. My daughter thinks the Evil Queen Narissa is the greatest thing ever.

Done at last!

The last day of school is always a relief. This year, especially, I have been looking forward to this day. I am ready to rest and relax a little, and to play with my adorable baby! Look how cute she is!

Katie is in the hammock in this picture. She likes hanging out there with Mom or Dad. There's so much to look at!
This past weekend Katie started rolling all around. She has gotten pretty good at rolling front to back, back to front. This weekend she figured out that if she rolls, and then rolls again, she can get around the room. She started out by rolling to get closer to Tiny, then started rolling everywhere! She got to a bookcase yesterday and pulled a book off the shelf. Watch out, world, here comes Katie!
