The Hokey Pokey Man

Our neighborhood is, apparently, worth the ice cream man's time. Apparently the retirees and families-with-high-schoolers are a good client base. Who knew? We don't usually patronize the hokey pokey man, but he was pretty persistent one day last month.



Katie is into Dora the Explorer right now, so we decided to buy a Dora ice cream bar. Despite Dora's chocolate looking hair, it's banana flavored ice cream. And I have no idea what those things that made her eyes were. Katie didn't eat them, whatever they were.

9 miles

A measely 9 miles this week. Including a Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5k walk.

Brings the training total to 24 miles.

15 miles

I didn't update at the beginning of this week. I'm a little embarrassed that I didn't get much walking in last week, but the stomach flu knocked me down for about 4 days. I did get about 5 miles in at the beginning of the week, which brings my grand total to 15 miles.

This week, I've just been lazy. No excuses. Tired and lazy.

Time to get motivated!

To be honest, Jared and I don't do a lot of dual language stuff with Katie, although, as she's becoming more verbal, and Dora the Explorer is ruling our lives, she's showing a great interest and aptitude for it. So I thought I'd give a quick Katie dictionary.

"Stop! ¡Para!" I just heard this today.
"¡Largo!" yelled really loud with hands far apart = long
"Largo" whispered very quietly with hands close together = short
"¿Qué es eso?" She uses this exclusively for "What's that?"
"Abre" She uses this exclusively when she wants something opened.
"Sube" This is what she always says for going up something, stepping up, etc.
"Salta" She goes back and forth with this for "Jump."

I hope we can keep 2 languages alive in our house!

10 miles

I've started officially counting my total mileage, in preparation for the Komen 3-Day. Plus or minus a few daily walks previously, and not counting the 3.4 miles from my classroom to the copy room, I walked 10 miles last week, for a grand total of... (drum roll, please)... 10 miles. Hey, I just started counting!

3-Day Walk for the Cure. 3 days, 60 miles to end breast cancer.

We had a lovely Easter!

Poor Katie, though, had to wear tennis shoes. I bought her some Salt Water Sandals, but they are too small, and they were the largest size the store had. But they turned out to be better shoes for egg hunting!



She spent much of the time pointing and yelling "A egg! Look! A egg!"



Katie had so much fun hunting for the eggs, looking all around, and getting so excited when she found one!







She also really enjoyed the treats!

First Haircut

Katie was looking a little ragged, so I took her to Cassandra for a trim. Just b-a-r-e-l-y took any off, just to even out the stragglies.

Before: I just combed it back and let it dry after washing it, so it dried in it's natural part--and craziness.

Combing and cutting: I bribed her to sit still with some Whopper eggs. She didn't mind the cutting at all.




Styling and blowdry: She did not like the blow dryer. No surprises there.




And beautifuller than ever!
